Textiles Products

BioBlack TX
(D90 = 0.85 microns)

BioBlack TX is a 100% bio-based water dispersion recommended for any aqueous formula where the addition of the color black is desired. With 30% pigment loading, it is commonly used on textiles, leather, non-leather, and packaging.

BioBlack DP
(D90 = 0.45microns)

BioBlack DP is a 100% biobased black water based dispersion with a 30% pigment loading that was originally designed for cellulosic dope dyeing of fibers.

TEXTILES AND LEATHER: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • BioBlack™ is a 100% bio-based black pigment made from renewable wood waste. It replaces petroleum-derived carbon black — the most widely used and least sustainable pigment in the textile industry. BioBlack TX (need registration mark for BB TX, not ™), an aqueous dispersion developed for textiles and leather coatings, can be used in screen printing, rotary printing, all kinds of coatings on wovens, non-wovens, knits and leathers, pigment dyeing,, and general pigment formulations without any change to existing equipment or process setup. BioBlack DP is an aqueous dispersion developed specifically for dope dyeing man-made cellulose yarns. Both BioBlack TX and BioBlack DP are 100% bio-based.

  • In independent testing, BioBlack TX matched or exceeded the performance of petroleum-based carbon black in color depth, wash durability, and process stability. It maintained over 94% color strength through high-temperature reactive-dye cycles and achieved equal wash and crock fastness ratings under AATCC standards.

  • Not at all. Independent print trials showed BioBlack TX™ produced a deep, neutral black tone with excellent reproducibility across multiple print runs. Any minimal hue variation (a slightly warmer undertone) remains well within commercial tolerance and is indistinguishable to the eye once printed or dyed.

  • Yes. BioBlack TX™ is designed as a drop-in replacement for carbon black aqueous dispersions, working seamlessly in most existing water-basedpigment formulas. .

  • BioBlack™ is made from FSC-certified wood waste in a closed-loop, zero-waste process powered by renewable energy. It’s carbon-negative, non-toxic, and free of PAHs, PFAs and VOCs.. By eliminating fossil inputs, BioBlack™ significantly reduces the overall carbon footprint of textile pigment use.

  • Yes. BioBlack™ delivers 10–15% higher color yield, meaning less pigment is needed to achieve the same depth of black. An independent analysis showed this efficiency created a 20–25% improvement in cost-to-performance ratio, making it both sustainable and economically viable at scale.

  • BioBlack TX™ has achieved multiple global certifications and regulatory alignments, including:

    FSC 100% recycled wood waste

    OKEO-TEX ECOPASSPORT

    Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS)

    ZDHC 3.0

    USDA BioPreferred

    REACH

    TSCA

    • USDA Certified 100% Biobased Product (U.S. Department of Agriculture BioPreferred Program)

    • TSA (Total Solids Analysis) verified — no hazardous air pollutants during production or use

EU and French compliance, meeting Eco-Score and EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) requirements for apparel sustainability labeling

  • Yes. BioBlack™ is produced in the Southeast USA from U.S.-sourced wood waste, ensuring reliable supply and resilience against global trade instability and import tariffs. Partnering with U.S.-based manufacturers helps strengthen domestic textile supply chains while reducing transport emissions.

  • BioBlack™ is available in pigment and dispersion formats that integrate directly into existing textile and leather systems. Nature Coatings partners closely with mills, and brands to guide trials, optimize formulations, Mills can start with small-scale sampling or pilot runs and quickly scale to full production once performance validation is complete.
